No More Restrictions Please — Restaurants

I am writing this email today on behalf of the disillusioned restaurant owners who’ve managed to survive this trying time. When this first began we all wanted to do our part to help maintain the health and security of Ottawa citizens (our customers) we respected the protocols imposed, we adapted to changes, spent money on all the required PPE and city imposed guidelines in the hopes of saving our businesses, we literally have done more than any other segment of business in the country to mitigate any possible risks to customers.

Canada’s own regulatory bodies have recognized that restaurants are not the cause of transmissions.

This weeks announcement that we will be limited to 4 people from the same household per table is where the line in the sand must be drawn. We are requesting the statistics, reasoning and professional opinions used to formulate any and all further changes. We feel the rules are arbitrary and do not reflect an even approach to this dilemma from a health and safety perspective. We respectfully request that if any further restrictions are imposed on restaurants, that Costco, Walmart and all big box stores be limited to 50 customers per store so that we all carry the burden of safety together.

If in fact the protocols imposed on us are effective at slowing the spread, we suggest that we all equally shoulder this burden. We also would like clarification regarding the correlation between positive tests and hospitalization and death rate including comorbidities and what role they played in the diagnosis of patients.

You see all this free time off of work has given many of us time to research, learn and be able to effectively digest all the numbers we’ve been bombarded with over the last year and a trend that will be prevalent in the very near future is how vocal and industrious we Entrepeneurs can be when our livelihoods are at risk. Hoping this email reaches you well, we will also be sending it to your office along with the provincial and federal government bodies by registered mail with hundreds of signatures of business owners across the province.

We thank you for your time and your efforts in seeing that we all survive these trying times.
